The Artifact which can travel.

Image
After having the information about Simon Starling, Autoxylopyrocycloboros (2006) became more interesting to me from all of his works and I took inspiration for my artifact project. As a house is closely related to its inhabitants, so is my bed. After having a hectic day when I came back to my home, I feel myself. I think this is my world.   My imagination or realization is the same with the house. At the end of the day, people go back to their homes to spend their time in their own world.   Our piece-of-furniture workshop was like, where the main ingredients of the artifacts were to be any old furniture used. I had an old bed and I was inspired by Simon Starling, so I broke my bed frame at home and carried it from London to Portsmouth in part by part. I just recorded the sound of the train journey, intended to follow the record process.     In 2006, Simon Starling made a boat from a shade of his house and he took that small boat with a wooden burn...

Leisure Thought

If I am asked, what is architecture journey in your view?   My answer would be: architecture journey is an ongoing process in which people have used and are currently using all the patterns for their civilized behavior and social life from the beginning of human civilization till today.   Keeping ideas about and for this reason, whenever I have a chance, I go out with my family to know the unknown. This summer we went to visit Scotland where there is a big statue of Sir Walter Scott; he is the national poet of Scotland. We visited these two cities Glasgow and Inverness well.   I love seeing conservation work, so I bought the Loch Ness tour package to visit the Urquhart Castle. I didn't know that Loch means lake, in the Scottish accent. When we visited a public library in Glasgow, I caught my eye among many book covers.   Loch Long stuck out a word and with it a name came to my mind, Simon Starling. When I get back at the hotel I goggled what I saw was Simo...

Sensory drawing and the notion of journey towards infinity.

This was our 2nd workshop at Wymering Manor and the date was 20.10.2023. Here we were given a clear briefing on what I believe to be Sensory Drawing, which basically derives design inspiration. Also, how in an interior we can be connected to the essence of our existence.   Real experience of this kind of work, I had never before had to touch and feel every wall of a building. I had to better notice my breathing and express it through drawing.   The journey of my existence is terminated. I would be a particle of another dimension then, but this world will continue to survive for thousands of years even in the midst of evolution.   This journey is unlimited and this is what I was able to capture in the continuity of work in the event of my sensory drawing. One day, nothing would be existing anymore and just waiting for that day, the ultimate last judgment day. So what is my journey as being an architect, though it’s debatable but I would be the connection hub...

Perception and Drawing.

13.10.2023 in class we were asked to draw Wymering Manor. I hadn't seen its architectural layout yet but I could guess that the main building would be something of a U shape type flanked by twin Jacobean staircases and Georgian Bay windows on the west wall. These memories kept going back and forth in my head. I spent some time in class with this drawing. The exact plan of Wymering Manor is look like below: At one point I tried to shape the Georgian Bay window by myself. Historically, this manor from the year 1285 to till date has changed ownership a total of 28 times although its current ownership is held by the Wymering Manor Trust. The property has been held for the highest longest time by Mr. Edward Wayte from the year 1449 to 1518 for 69 years and logically the 7 th owner of this Manor. Then the second longest time this property was belongs to Mr. John Le Botllier from the year 1285 to 1350 for 65 years and this person was the first owner of this house. At the starting of 19...

Inception and me.

Image
The date was 6 th of October in 2023; I myself was not clear about what I should do in such a house. At first sight, I was a little surprised to see a rain-soaked old house. A   house with long history, standing among rows of trees. I have seen many movies and listened too many songs about such an ancient house. There is a very popular song in Bengali, Jeremy's violin. During the British period, a foreign gentleman was the violin master of Bengali boys in the city of Kolkata. After the partition, that master went back to his own country; this is where the gentleman's journey ends, but the journey of the house still has a long way to go. At our first workshop in Wymering Manor, we divided into two groups and start working. Our life is a collection of six senses. When any one of the senses is closed, the other senses are more awake. When I was reading the nerve of a classmate with one hand with my eyes closed and trying to draw the rhythm of the nerve with the other hand, th...
